Chair Up ! Upholstery Workshop

Want to learn upholstery? Recover that stool? Kick-start your new hobby? It’s easier than you think. Come and enjoy the awesome atmosphere of the Historic Village while you learn a new skill.

WHAT TO BRING:

– Small upholstery project e.g. a dining chair (seat only), footstool, basic ottoman, bar stool or piano stool.
(Don’t have a project? Ask a friend, check out the op-shops, Trade Me or Facebook Marketplace. Keep it simple! Make sure it doesn’t need TOO much sewing; you’ll need to be a confident sewer.)
– Fabric (medium weight upholstery grade)
– Lunch
– Water bottle
– Covered shoes

WHAT NOT TO BRING:

– stresses/worries: this is your day, and your space!

SKILLS YOU’LL LEARN:
*How to safely strip down your project.
*Repair and preparation
*Creating a foundation with elastic webbing
*Building a comfort core with foam and wadding
*Preparing and positioning fabric
*Stapling fabric to project
*The different pleats
*How to do release cuts
*Tying buttons on
*Lastly adding gimp, buttons or decorative tacks (optional)

It’s so much easier than you think. You’ll have fun, make new friends and take home something to be proud of and feel confident to go onto the next project.
