Karangahake Photo Walk

World Photo Day

All photographers with any brand of camera are welcome to join the Carters Photographics team for this special World Photo Day event brought to you in association with Sony.

We will start the day by meeting at the beautiful Owharoa Falls(100m up Waitawhata Rd off State Highway 2) the falls are only 50m off the road! Meet at 9:30am and spend about an hour photographing the waterfall and surrounding area. Parking for the falls is limited but there is plenty of parking just down the road before the bridge.

Then we will move about 1 km down the road from the above carpark area to the Victoria Battery to explore the old ruins, for a couple of hours. We’ll break for lunch at about 12:30pm.

After lunch a small 5km drive north up State Highway 2 allows us to continue our adventure to the Old Rail Tunnel

FAQs
What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Getting there: You’re looking at about a 1-hour drive from Tauranga. The road is sealed the whole way. After Waihi you will see a sign ‘Owharoa Falls’ to your left into Waitawheta Rd. Cross the one-lane bridge. The carpark is on the left just accross the bridge. There are no facilities there (no toilets). From the carpark follow the easy 5 minute Owharoa Falls Walk to the waterfall’s base.
