Breakfast with the Birds

Marvel at the Dawn Chorus

Spend a night at Aongatete Lodge learning about the effects a pest control programme can have on the biodiversity in the forest.

After arriving at 5pm, explore the Lodge and surrounds, enjoy a delicious meal then head out on a night walk in the forest accompanied by a team of experts lead by Bryce McQuillan and Dr Peter Maddison to discover huge wetas, amazing spiders and glowworm by torchlight.

Then it is off to bed to be awoken early to marvel at the Dawn Chorus. Dr Ian McLean will identify the bellbird, tui and other feathered friends as they herald in the dawn. This sound is rapidly disappearing in forests where no pest control takes place. Breakfast will then be served. You are then free to head home or head into the forest for a walk around the Aongatete short loop with Barbara McGillivray, of the Aongatete Forest Project.

This event is best suited to adults and older children.
